SEXTANTS
An antique nautical sextant with a “Tulip frame” in its fitted mahogany case,
and signed on the arc by Bottomley,
successor to Crichton, 11 Billiter St, London. This late 19th
century sextant is also engraved
on the arc with the name of it’s original(?) owner R.D.C.Brownlow. The ebony shaped
handle on the reverse is sound and scale clamp is in
good working order. The sextant comes with two telescopic sights – a pinhole
sight and a wide angle day telescope. It has the
original arsenic black lacquered finish, original mirrors and swinging scale
microscope. The silver scale is calibrated -5 to 135 degrees. The sextant has
two horizontal shades and three vertical shades, all in good order. The
instrument and it's accessories are housed in the fitted mahogany carrying case
which has brass hinges and latches. This sextant is a good example of the
Victorian tulip framed model - £475
